About Don Knaus

Don Knaus was born in the boondocks and raised in the North Woods of Pennsylvania where he formed a life-long love of the outdoors. His rural upbringing wed him to the wilds. He is a Tioga County native familiar with a land so wild that, as late as the Civil War, it was still known as “Wildcat Country.” Since the 1960s, his beloved mountains have been known as “God’s Country.” Don chose to attend a local state college and after graduation he chose to stay in the idyllic setting of his youth to teach and coach. He coached award winning writers. He became a Hall of Fame coach. Near the end of his career in education, he left God’s Country for three years to serve as a school administrator. On retirement, he returned home to the hills. Don is married to a huntin’, fishin’ coal miner’s daughter and they have two daughters, a son and a granddaughter. He spends his free time in outdoor activities and writing. His short stories have been featured in sporting periodicals and his poetry has been published in anthologies and journals.
